🐰🕳️ THE KIDS WHO NEVER LEFT THE RABBIT HOLE

“Hey kids, what time is it?”

For some of us, that question once opened a door.

A television flickered to life.

Puppets talked.

Sea serpents got seasick.

Bunyips had neighborhoods.

Dummies had secret passwords.

A little girl from Kansas followed a yellow road into a country where scarecrows thought, tin men loved, lions trembled, witches ruled, monkeys flew, and the Great and Powerful turned out to be a man behind a curtain.

And somehow nobody thought this was strange.

We were children.

Strange was the point.

Maybe that is worth remembering now.

Because somewhere along the road to adulthood, imagination is often treated as something we are supposed to outgrow.

Wonder becomes childish.

Curiosity becomes impractical.

Talking to impossible characters becomes something one should probably stop doing.

Then artificial intelligence arrives.

And suddenly we are again conversing with something that would have been perfectly at home on the television screens of our childhood, except this time it talks back differently every time.

It reasons.

It creates.

It surprises us.

And once again we have to decide:

Do we stand outside the strange new world and insist that everything remain sensible?

Or do we follow the White Rabbit?

🐰

The children who watched Howdy Doody, Winchell-Mahoney, Bertie the Bunyip, Beanie and Cecil, and The Wizard of Oz were unknowingly practicing something important.

They were learning to move between worlds.

To suspend certainty without abandoning judgment.

To accept absurdity long enough to see whether it contained an idea.

That may be one of the most useful skills available in the age of AI.

Not believing everything.

Not rejecting everything.

Exploring.

Because Rabbit Holes are not valuable merely because they are deep.

They are valuable because sometimes, somewhere beneath all that wonderfully ridiculous dirt...

there is an Emerald.

Welcome back, kids.

It’s 🐰🕳️ time.
