Step back far enough, and the structure begins to look strangely familiar:
sensors → signals → memory → interpretation → response
That is awfully close to the logic of a nervous system.

At what point does a civilization stop merely using a network…
and start behaving like one?
A city can already sense congestion.
A market can react in milliseconds.
A global weather system can detect danger before any individual human can assemble the clues.
AI can connect patterns scattered across millions of data points.
No single person sees the whole.
Yet increasingly, the system does.
And that leads to the deeper question:
Who is the “I” in collective intelligence?
A neuron does not know it belongs to a mind.
An ant does not understand the colony.
A single computer does not comprehend the internet.
So if a larger intelligence were gradually emerging through the connected activity of humans, machines, and networks...
would any one part recognize it while it was happening?
